What is the Team Rating System?
Volleyball is a sport that relies heavily on the individual skill of each player coming together and working in unison. When there's a mismatch in skill between players, whether it's on your team or on the opponent's team, the quality of the game drops heavily. The team rating system is designed to match you with players of similar skill levels, both on your team and your opponents. This ensures your competitive volleyball games are fun, safe, and fair!
The team rating system uses each player's individual rating to create the overall team rating. Below is a breakdown on how both ratings work:
Individual Player Ratings
To receive your initial player rating, you need to create or join a rated team. Your rating will match the starting rating of your team (Recreational = 1400, Competitive = 1600). After your team logs scores, your individual rating will adjust to match the new team rating. If you already have an individual rating, it won’t change when you join another team. Your rating will only update when your team competes and records scores.
Team Ratings
Team ratings are based on the individual ratings of all team members. If players have different individual ratings, the team's rating will be the average of all players’ ratings. If a player without an individual rating joins a team, their rating will be set to the team's starting rating, chosen when the team was created. Note: Your individual player rating has no impact on the weekly drop-in games you are able to attend.

Click the trophy button to rate your team
Select your team's skill level
Click "Create" & you're done!

Search the team you just played and click "Add Scores"
Add the scores for each set played and hit "Submit"
Done! The other captain will be invited to a DM where they can confirm the scores.

Team Rating System FAQ
How do players get an initial rating?
Players are given a starting rating based on the selected skill level of the team. 700 for recreational, 1000 for intermediate/semi-comp, 1300 for advanced.
Note: these starting ratings may be subject to change.
What if players switch teams?
Volleyball is a team game, thus, Javelin prioritizes team ratings. Javelin then uses the ratings of a player's most recent teams to give them an "Implied Player Rating". This implied rating will only ever be used as a rough estimate of the players skill level and to give new teams they join a starting rating.
What's preventing players from joining multiple teams?
Javelin's system can handle a player joining and competing in as many teams as they'd like!
