NBA Finals Los Angeles Lakers vs Miami Heat
After months in the NBA bubble and four rounds of the best teams battling for the chance to compete for the NBA Championship, the season is set to end within the next week. The finals are the Los Angeles Lakers out of the Western Conference, duelling the Miami Heat from the East. Due to their 102-96 win last night, the Los Angeles Lakers lead the Miami Heat 3-1 in the best of 7 series. Lebron James and Anthony Davis lead the charge for the Lakers and are being supported by a strong supporting cast, made up of veteran players. The lone Miami win came behind just the 3rd 40 point triple-double in NBA Finals history from small forward Jimmy Butler in game 3. Rookie Tyler Herro is also providing a valuable contribution to the Heat, stepping up to fill the hole left by the injuries plaguing the heat.
The Miami Heat have been dealing with multiple injuries to key players. Both Center Bam Adebayo and Point Guard Goran Dragic have missed games due to injury. Adebayo missed games 2 and 3 because of a foot injury, while Dragic has been out since game one with a neck injury. Adebayo did return for game 4, but it is still unclear if Dragic will return, or when. He is currently listed as day-to-day.
Lebron is looking to secure his 4th Championship in his 10th appearance in the NBA Finals, while Miami is looking for their first Finals win since Lebron James led them in the 2012-2013 season. If the Lakers win, this would be their 17th NBA Championship. However if the Heat manages to come back from a 3-1 deficit, it would be their 4th Championship, and only the second time a team has come back in the finals from being down 3-1. (The only other time being Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016 Finals against the Golden State Warriors.)
In last night’s game, the Lakers bounced back from a severe loss with a much-needed win. Lebron James poured in 28 points, to go along with 12 rebounds and 8 assists, while Anthony Davis recorded 22 points and 9 rebounds. Jimmy Butler came up one assist shy of a triple-double, putting up a stat line of 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists, and in his return, Bam Adebayo scored 15 points and 7 rebounds.
So far, the results of the Games have been as follows:
Game 1 98-116 Lakers Win
Game 2 114-124 Lakers Win
Game 3 104-115 Heat Win
Game 4 102-96 Lakers Win
Game Five is set to take place this Friday at 9:00 pm EST, and if necessary, games 6 and 7 are scheduled for Sunday and Tuesday, respectively.
